Lauren Davidson is a singer-songwriter who resides in New York City. Lauren grew up doing musical theatre and received a BFA from Montclair State University in Musical Theatre. She now lives in the city and is chasing her dreams. She is the female lead singer with Big Hix, a country music tribute band, which has taken her to perform not only in New Jersey, but also Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
Aside from singing with Big Hix, Lauren has performed her own original music in several venues in New York City. Lauren will be releasing her first single, “Sometimes” with a release show at Drom on September 9th.
We recently got a chance to sit and chat with Lauren. Not only is she a very talented singer, but she has an amazing energy and passion for what she does. We can’t wait to see what is next for her!
upfrontNY: Can you tell me about you and your music? How you got started?
Lauren: I have been singing my whole life. My father was a singer/songwriter and played the piano and guitar. My grandpa was a trumpet player. There was always music in the house.
About 4 years ago I moved to the city and started getting asked to sing back up in original bands. I started singing in a cover band, a wedding band, and a country cover band, which I still sing in. “Big Hix. “
This is where I feel like I belong, where I’m happy and what I want to be doing. I started writing in my spare time. Last February I did my first gig as a solo artist with my original music here in the City at Arlene’s Grocery. Now September 9th I am releasing my first single.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about the meaning of your single “Sometimes.”
Lauren: I think that it is something everyone can relate to. It is something that sticks with you, from a kid to an adult. “Sometimes” was more of the grown up resolution of accepting that things are not always perfect.
upfrontNY: Has there been one place in the city you really like performing at?
Lauren: All the places I have played at I really love. I have done Arlene’s Grocery and Drom where we are doing the single release. We also played Rockwood Music Hall and Pianos.
upfrontNY: Is there one venue your hoping to play in the future?
Lauren: Irving plaza. I have seen a lot of shows at Irving plaza. There was a band that opened for betty who and he talked about how he remembered being in the audience saying, one day I will play Irving Plaza. I talked to him after and that’s how it made me feel.
upfrontNy: You have the release coming up for your single. What is your next goal?
Lauren: Eventually I would love to tour and open for a big artist. I have a lot of people I admire, respect, and influenced by. I also plan to keep writing and performing.
