She’s been called the “Rugged Popstar.” With her brand new single, “Room For 2” and a soon to be released project the Canadian singer/songwriter Alexa Ferr is getting ready for an exciting year. She has performed at several famous Hollywood venues. Get to know this up and coming superstar.
upfrontNY: What can we expect from your new project? Is there a song that means the most to you?
Alexa Ferr: You can expect to hear a mature and more grown-up side of me throughout this project, full of confidence and real emotions from real, personal experiences. I truly live and share through my songs. The most meaningful ones are the single ‘Room For 2’ and another track called ‘Climb’.
upfrontNY: What has been your biggest challenge while recording your latest music?
Alexa Ferr: Surprisingly I didn’t have any challenges or issues with my latest music other than choosing which final songs will be on the project! There are so many, but I wanted to make sure they’re the right ones for this project.
upfrontNY: You’ve performed at various famous venues, has there been one that stands out for you?
Alexa Ferr: I definitely loved performing at The House of Blues and The RAW Artist showcase I did a couple years back because it was more intimate, but everyone who attended was also in the arts and were showcasing their passions just like how I was. It was an interesting experience.
upfrontNY: What was it like working with The Penhouse and what can you tell us about the past single you created with the duo, “Hit the Switch?”
Alexa Ferr: I loved working with The Penhouse on Hit The Switch! It was almost 2 years ago when we worked on that song and it came to life the moment we started working together that day.
upfrontNY: Your upcoming single, “Room For 2” is about a real life experience. Your songwriting stems from personal experiences, do you feel that’s easier to write about that than creating something that isn’t real?
Alexa Ferr: Most definitely! I don’t think it’s impossible or hard to do it by using your imagination, but I prefer to have a concept first regardless of if I’m visualizing a scenario in my head like a music video playing, or if it’s me reminiscing and basically venting through the song about my own personal experiences. It’s always easier to have the concept first, and it does help if it was a real experience for sure because the real emotion will shine through and connect with whomever is listening.
upfrontNY: You love to read, cook and travel… can you tell us what your favorites are for each topic?
Alexa Ferr: Yes! I love The Celestine Prophecy, The Alchemist and The Secret. I love to cook Italian food, I make a really good meat and spaghetti in a marinara sauce or chicken parmigiana. I also love making healthier dishes like a teriyaki strifry with quinoa instead of rice, vegetables and either chicken or salmon. I love travelling and exploring new parts of the world because it opens a new perspective to things I may not have seen, or knew existed.
upfrontNY: Your project is due out later this year, will we be able to see you perform the new material as well?
Alexa Ferr: Yes! I will be announcing show dates soon!
upfrontNY: What artist is at the top of your list to work with?
Alexa Ferr: Anderson .Paak, Rihanna, Tory Lanez, Drake and Kendrick Lamar
upfrontNY: What has been the biggest obstacle you have faced while pursuing your music career?
Alexa Ferr: Not letting certain situations bring me down, even though I eventually stay positive and things work out but I had to learn to let things be and just focus on the music.
upfrontNY: What advice would you give to someone starting out in the music business?
Alexa Ferr: Never let anyone tell you that you can’t pursue your dreams or that your ideas aren’t enough, believe in yourself and work your butt off!
