Alexa Nisenson is a talented young actress who has been very busy! She can be seen making her feature film debut in “Middle School: The Worst Years of my Life” which premiered October 7th. She co-stars as Georgia opposite of Lauren Graham. Alexa can also be seen in the upcoming comedy “Fist Fight” scheduled for nationwide relate on February 17, 2017.
Recently we got the chance to interview Alexa about acting, her recent films, what she loves about NYC and more!
upfrontNY: What is your favorite part about acting?
Alexa Nisenson: I think for me, my favorite thing is getting to be other people and experience things that I normally wouldn’t, through my characters! I am an only child, so getting to live for three months as a girl with a big brother in Middle School was awesome! Acting really lets you kind of escape your everyday life and go to a place of make-believe, which is amazing.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your role in “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life” ?
Alexa Nisenson: Yes! So, I play Georgia Khatchadorian!! Georgia is Rafe’s little sister and is a pretty sassy, but also a sensitive and compassionate girl! Georgia doesn’t get into trouble at school but she definitely is similar to Rafe and likes adventures. She and her pet pug Mr. Giggles are kind of BFF’s. She can be hard on her brother and get on his nerves but she loves him so much and is protective of both Rafe and Jule’s, their mom. She also is a little obsessed with driving cars!
upfrontNY: This was your feature film debut. How are you feeling about being a part of this film and who did you get to see it with, when it premiered?
Alexa Nisenson: Oh wow – well it’s hard to put into words! For starters, it’s a huge honor to get to bring one of James Patterson’s book characters to life! It’s not every day you get to do that for such an icon. Being a part of this movie definitely changed my life. I now have all these people that are like family to me, like Griffin Gluck and Thomas Barbusca and Jake Hopkins – they are all like big brothers to me! I am so proud of this movie. We all worked really hard and our director Steve Carr and the producers put so much heart and soul into this movie. I feel honored to be part of it. I got to go to the premiere with my parents and of course the cast of the movie. I got to meet some really fun people at the LA premiere who were there as guests.
upfrontNY: What is the most exciting thing about being on set?
Alexa Nisenson: The most exciting thing is really just getting to see how a movie is made. It takes so many people doing so many different things to make one minute of a movie! I love seeing how set designers work with sound techs and cinematographers and how they all then work with hair, makeup and wardrobe and just seeing it all come together. There is nothing more exciting than a movie set! Watching a movie get made makes me appreciate every single part of it. And once you see how hard everyone works, you will never leave a movie before the credits are done rolling! I now sit and watch every name roll because they all worked so hard to get their name on that list!
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your new movie “Fist Fight”?
Alexa Nisenson: Ahhhhh!!! I am SOOOOO excited for this movie!! Fist Fight is a hilarious movie about two teachers who get into an after school fist fight in the parking lot. It is one of the funniest and most talented casts you will ever see and Richie Keen, our director is my idol. I actually would spend my whole career working on his films if I could.
upfrontNY: You will be playing Charlie Day’s daughter in the movie. What was this experience like?
Alexa Nisenson: It was an experience that will probably go down as one of my most favorite ever and will be pretty hard to top! Charlie is as nice and kind as he is talented and funny. I can’t even describe in words how much I learned from Charlie and what an inspiration and honor it was working with him. In my opinion, he is probably one of the funniest actors, so having the chance to play his daughter was a dream come true.
upfrontNY: This film has so many amazing people! Did any of them give you any great advice?
Alexa Nisenson: It’s funny because I did get a lot of great acting advice from the cast. Charlie always had amazing things to say and so did Joanna Garcia Swisher who played my mom. She is such a beautiful person inside and out. But I think what I love most, is that what I really got on that set was life advice. I got to spend a day with Tracy Morgan who is one of the most amazing guys I have ever met and we got to really talk. I can just remember him giving me advice on how to be a good and honest and hard-working person and how to show appreciation for my parents and I will never, ever forget that.
upfrontNY: I see that you love to travel – What has been your favorite part about NYC when you have visited?
Alexa Nisenson: Oh boy – trying to pick one thing about NYC that is my favorite is super hard. I love the energy of NYC and the food and the shopping. I would have to say seeing Broadway shows. I literally could go see a show every day. When we were there for press for Middle School, Griffin and I got to go see School of Rock and it was so amazing. I am dying to see Hamilton on my next trip.
upfrontNY: If you could film a movie anywhere in the world where would it be?
Alexa Nisenson: Denmark!! I have been dying to go there and visit. We have family there that comes to the USA to visit us, but I have never been. So, I would want to go film in Denmark because for one, I hear it’s an amazing country and I would get to visit all my aunts and uncles and cousins there.
