Albert Tsai is an actor who can be currently seen playing Dave opposite Ken Jeong on the ABC comedy “Dr. Ken.” Albert has also been on the shows “Trophy Wife” and has a recurring role on “Fresh Off The Boat”.
Recently we got a chance to sit down and chat with him on his recent trip to NYC.
upfrontNY: How did you get your start in acting?
Albert Tsai: I did a school play when I was 7 and I fell in love with acting. I decided I wanted to act and went to acting school. I went to the convention called iPOP! where I won child actor of the year. My agent and manager discovered me there and I started going out on auditions, then I got my previous show Trophy Wife. That ran from 2013-2014 and now I’m on ABC’s new show Dr. Ken and have a recurring role on Fresh off the boat.
upfrontNY: What has it been like being on these shows?
Albert Tsai: It’s amazing. I got to try out different types of filming and I love learning about how the production team works together and makes a TV show.
upfrontNY: What do you like most filming in front of a Live audience like on “Dr. Ken”?
Albert Tsai: It makes me excited. I get an adrenaline rush and I love to act in front of the audience and get their feedback.
upfrontNY: What has been happening with your character on the show?
Albert Tsai : On the Valentine’s Day episode Dave falls in love with a girl Emma but her dad is enemies with Dr. Ken. That is kind of like a Romeo and Juliet. Ken’s community co-stars Joel McHale and Danny Pudi guest star in that episode. It was really cool to have them on set.
upfrontNY: I heard this is your first time to New York . What has it been like?
Albert Tsai: It is awesome. Where I’m from in Northern California there are maybe like 6 skyscrapers. I want to do all the major tourist attractions. I already did Rockefeller center. It was really cool with the fountain and flags. I also went on the intrepid.
upfrontNY: I read that you like to travel. What have been some of your favorite places that you have visited?
Albert Tsai: Recently I went to Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It was really awesome. I went to Vienna and saw a concert, the birth place of Mozart in Salzburg, and the highest mountain in Switzerland.
upfrontNY: Where do you want to go that you haven’t been yet?
Albert Tsai: I would really love to go to Italy, Greece, or France. I’ve been to Vancouver but would love to go to Eastern Canada. I went to Chicago when I was really little, but I want to go back, and the same with Shanghai.
upfrontNY: What do you like to do on normal day when not filming?
Albert Tsai : I love to read. In the summertime I swim. I love to horseback ride and freestyle dance. I like watching TV and playing video games.
upfrontNY: What are you looking forward to in 2016?
Albert Tsai : I love filming. We will be finishing season 1 filming in March and fingers crossed for season 2. It is really exciting. When I finish filming, I am going to go back to public school in San Jose. When I am filming, I live in LA and I do online school.
upfrontNY: What subjects do you like learning about?
Albert Tsai: I always love history no matter what type of school. It is my favorite subject. I also like Geography and Science.
