Jessica Lamb is a singer songwriter originally from Alabama. We had the opportunity to see Jessica perform as a finalist at the 2015 Project Aloft Star in New York City.
Recently we got a chance to talk to Jessica about her music, travels, and what is next!
Jessica started playing at the age of 14. Growing up, she performed in musical theatre and her musical journey grew once she attended college.
While in college, she spent some time studying abroad in Cambridge, England. “The first time I ever played one of my songs in front of people was in the Spring of 2014. I studied abroad in Cambridge, England. I played an open mic night there. I think that was the moment, playing one of my songs for the first time in front of people I decided I’m going to try this.”
Her passion for travel greatly influenced her music: “It has inspired my music so much up to this point. My first studio EP is called Songs of Travel. The whole EP is centered around songs I wrote while I was traveling, or songs inspired by traveling. There is a song on the EP called Cambridge, which was about my study abroad experience.”
Two of Jessica song’s, “Let Me Be” and “Cambridge” can be heard in Starbucks nationwide! “I had friends from Seattle, Chicago, Nashville where I live now, and all over the US say they heard the songs.”
Recently we got the chance to see Jessica perform as a finalist in the Project Aloft Star competition. After seeing Ingrid Michaelson’s tweet about the competition, she knew she had to enter. Not only did she become a finalist performing in NYC, she was also given the chance to be mentored by Ingrid! “I have been an Ingrid Michelson fan ever since I was a kid. The first time I decided to learn guitar was after I had gone to an Ingrid Michaelson concert.”
With a new year, there are some exciting things coming! “Part of my plan for this year is to get involved in the Nashville community. I would also love to record another EP by the end of this year. “
