She is not only talented, but fun, smart, and kind.
upfrontNY: How did you get involved with music and songwriting?
Kendal Conrad: I started singing in elementary school, and I also sang in the church choir around the same time. I couldn’t get enough once I started! Songwriting came later when I was in high school.
upfrontNY: How did you feel when you sang your songs for the first time?
Kendal Conrad: I remember the first time I sang one of my own songs at a gig. It was a song I wrote for my mom. I wanted it to be a surprise, so I didn’t tell her that I was going to sing it until I introduced the song and dedicated it to her. It was a really special moment. I find that now when I do my original songs I prelude them with a story about why I wrote it and what it means to me.
upfrontNY: I saw your song, “Country Queen” is on iTunes. Is that your first song that has been on iTunes?
Kendal Conrad: Yes! I originally wrote it for Reba McEntire because everyone calls her the Queen of Country. I love her to pieces, and I’m dying for the chance to open one of her shows!
upfrontNY: Is she your number one inspiration music wise?
Kendal Conrad: Yeah, definitely. She is my idol! It’s my dream to have a career that looks like hers – there’s really nothing she hasn’t done. I also love Taylor Swift’s first album. It really changed my life and made me want to be a songwriter.
upfrontNY: I saw that you performed with Keith Urban. What was that experience like?
Kendal Conrad: It was an out of body experience, and it went really fast. Before I knew it, it was over! When I was onstage with Keith, I was trying to take everything in, and I kept thinking “I will remember this moment for the rest of my life.”
upfrontNY: Is there one performance or experience that stands out in your mind from all of your performances?
Kendal Conrad: Hands down it would be Keith! I just opened for Easton Corbin and Rodney Atkins and I met them both. Super nice guys!
upfrontNY: Is there one venue, city, or country you would love to have the opportunity to play?
Kendal Conrad: I have always wanted to play the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal out of all the venues in the country, but the first concert I ever went to was Hilary Duff at that venue. At the time, it was still called the Wachovia Center. To play that venue in my home state would mean a lot to me.
upfrontNY: What are your future plans for right now?
Kendal Conrad: To reach as many people as possible with my music! I’m also trying to get noticed by a label in Nashville.
