Matt Sarafa is a fashion designer who was seen competing on Lifetime’s “Project Runway Junior.” At only 18 years old, he has accomplished so much and has a long career ahead of him.

We recently got a chance to sit and chat with Matt while he was in town for NYFW!

We asked him what it was like being on the show.“It was really amazing. Being on Project Runway Junior was the chance of a lifetime. It gave me the ability to expand my horizons and it has opened up so many doors in the fashion world.  I am so grateful and I couldn’t be more happy for how it turned out.”

He knew from a young age that he wanted to be a part of the fashion world.“I’ve always been interested in fashion since I was 7 and I’ve known since the very first moment that I saw “Project Runway” that this was something I wanted to do. “

Matt is from Manhattan Beach, California. He got the chance to film the show in New York City and was back in town for NYFW which he was really excited to be a part of. “I like the fast pace of New York and the high fashion. There are so many parts of New York and they all have their own flavor.

Matt describes his style as edgy and he likes to take risks. If he had the chance to design for anyone it would be LADY GAGA! “I love her sense of outlandishness and the fact she is not afraid to experiment with her fashion. “

He is looking forward to 2016. “I am putting out a couple pieces on my website MattSarafa.com. I have a hot mess kind of design I created inspired by the show by the unconventional materials challenge and it is a print that I have been putting on leather jackets, T-shirts, and stuff like that. Kelly Osborne has been in the jacket. Right now those are in production.”

Before his experience on the show, Matt started a YouTube Channel with 2 friends and he is very thankful for his subscribers. “I always loved the makeup side of YouTube and all the makeup tutorials and the beauty gurus. That was where I learned how to do makeup for the little fashion shows I would put on.”

Matt is a senior in high school and currently applying to colleges for next year. His most recent YouTube posting was different than his previous posts. In his video he describes an unfortunate interview while interviewing at Brown College.
