The Nick Tangorra band has been extremely busy with their recent EP being released, a new music video premiere, and joining the OMG Music Fest Tour.
The Long Island based band was formed in 2012 and consists of brothers Nick (vocals) and Rafe Tangorra (drums/ musical director) and Will Ahrens.
The band will hit the road on August 7th and heading to 9 cities in the Northeast.
We recently had the chance to speak with Nick about the music, touring, and the band’s great organization, “Rock Out Autism.”
upfrontNY: What are you most looking forward to for the OMG Music Festival?
Nick Tangorra: We are so pumped for it and that we are going to be able to go to new cities that we have never been to before. We get to meet fans and experience different things. We are very excited and there will be a lot of memories made.
upfrontNY: What’s the best part about meeting your fans?
Nick Tangorra: The best part is how cool they are. I want to be friends with them.
upfrontNY: What goes through your mind when you are on stage and people are singing along with your music?
Nick Tangorra: That is mind blowing. We put so much hard work into our songs and the fact we go on stage and people are singing along is is an incredible feeling.
upfrontNY: Are you originally from Long Island?
Nick Tangorra: I was born in Queens and moved out to Long Island when I was 7.
upfrontNY: Long Island is one of the stops on the tour, right?
Nick Tangorra: Yes, for us, it’s our big hometown show and we will also be in New York City at Webster Hall. Those 2 shows for us will mean a lot because it’s where we are from and there will be a lot of familiar faces. It is cool that we are so close to home.
upfrontNY: You recently played at Six Flags. Did you get a chance to go on any of the rides and if you did what were your favorite ones?
Nick Tangorra: Whenever I am at six flags I make it a point to go on Kingda Ka, El Toro, and El Diablo. I love six flags. The last time we were there it was more difficult for us to take a break from performing and jump on the rides, but I wanted to.
upfrontNY: You have played in some cool places, and have the tour coming up, is there one place you really hope to travel to and perform at one day?
Nick Tangorra: I want to travel all over the world and play where music is and isn’t allowed. What would be the biggest thing for me personally is to play Madison Square Garden or Radio City because we are from New York and those are venues we have gone to extremely often.
upfrontNY: I saw you do charity work and are involved in Rock Out Autism. How did that get started?
Nick Tangorra: It was started 7 years ago. When we went to Long Island we had just discovered Autism. It was something we didn’t know about before. When we got to Long Island, it was so real and so many neighboring houses had people who were affected by Autism. My brother and I were so into music and decided to use our musical talent and make a change in the world. The first year we put on a concert, a Non profit fundraiser and we sold 750 tickets for a tiny bar and made about $10,000. Over the years we have raised about $200,000.
upfrontNY: What do you want people to know about you and your music?
Nick Tangorra: We are very open and anything we have going on, the fans know about. We are very big on song writing and we love to write. Our EP and albums for the most part is all written by us.
upfrontNY: You recently had your EP released.
Nick Tangorra: It reached number 19 on the iTunes pop chart. We have an incredible following and blessed to have the support that we do.
