Asher Angel is a talented actor who can be seen in the upcoming Disney series, Andi Mack. Recently we had the chance to chat about Andi Mack, acting, and what he likes to do when he is not acting.

upfrontNY: How did you get your start in acting?

Asher Angel: I started acting when I was really little, like 3. My mom was an actress and she really inspired me. I did over 30 shows and she saw I was really serious about it. She brought me out to LA and it really started from there.

 

upfrontNY: What has been some of your best experiences on TV shows and being on set?

Asher Angel: I was on Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn and on Criminal Minds. It is amazing to go to all the sets and see them building it and what it looks like after its built. It’s amazing!

 

upfrontNY: What is it like going from filming a show to seeing yourself on tv?

Asher Angel: It is crazy and so different. When you see it on tv its like, wow! It is so cool how they edit it.

 

upfrontNY: Have you been given any good advice?

Asher Angel: There has been a lot, but my mom usually tells me; never give up, work hard, and anything is possible.

 

upfrontNY: Since your mom is an actress, do you run lines together?

Asher Angel: Oh yeah! With both my mom and dad. They are great supporters and I definitely couldn’t be where I am without them.

 

upfrontNY: Can you tell me about the show, Andi Mack?

Asher Angel: Andi Mack is about a 13 year old girl. It is about teenagers, caring, and friendships. I’m really excited for people to see this show because I think a lot of people would relate to this show. It is about real things that happen. I’m really blessed to be on this project.

 

upfrontNY: You play Jonah. Can you tell us about your character?

Asher Angel: Jonah Beck is 14, cool, sensitive, and really thoughtful.

 

upfrontNY: What has the experience been like from the audition to finding out you booked the role?

Asher Angel: We were heading home to Arizona and on our way to catch our flight and we were late. My dad calls me in the car and said, Asher it is ok if you miss your flight, you got Andi Mack. I started screaming in the Uber car.

 

upfrontNY: What has it been like being a part of the Disney Channel?

Asher Angel: It has always been my dream to be on the Disney Channel. I remember when I was 5 I would always watch all the shows. I loved Jesse, Good Luck Charlie, and Austin and Ally. There are so many. I still watch them now and it is like, wow I’m going to be on it!

 

upfrontNY: You also have experience in theatre. Can you tell us about how it is different from filming tv?

Asher Angel: When I do theatre, I have all these people and I take them on a journey. When I do filming, you can have takes and you can get the perfect one, but you have to have the perfect one when you go on stage. If you mess up on film, you can do another take but theatre, you have to go up there 100% confident.

 

upfrontNY: What is it like to have experience in theatre?

Asher Angel: I love theatre and it would be a dream to go on Broadway someday.

 

upfrontNY: What Broadway show would you want to be in?

Asher Angel: Pippin. That would be a really fun show to be in. I would love to be a part of any show.

 

upfrontNY: Would you be interested in living in NYC ?

Asher Angel: Definitely!

 

upfrontNY: What do you like to do when you are not acting?

Asher Angel: I really like to hang out with my friends, my family, my dog. I really love to sing and play guitar. I like to be a regular teenager. I like to play football and basketball.

 

upfrontNY: Is there anything you want others to know about you?

Asher Angel: I want to play a hard character that is very emotional.
