Carolyn Miller is a talented country artist who splits her time between New York and Nashville. We got to catch up with Carolyn about her single “Summer Time”, playing the NYC Women of Country: Acoustic Night, and her 2020 goals.
Check it out!
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your single “Summer Time”?
Carolyn Miller: This was written by my friends Lance Carpenter, Leah Turner, and Blake Bollinger. Lance texted me one day and was like “check this out” – I heard the first 30 seconds and was hooked. I loved the storyline, could totally relate to it, and couldn’t get the melody out of my head!! It’s just a blast to perform live. This song is your ultimate summer jam that reflects back on that one summer romance you’ll never forget. We all have one – it doesn’t matter if it happened when you were 14, 22, 35, etc…no matter how much time goes by, you’ll always remember those days like it was yesterday!
upfrontNY: We loved the music video! What was the best part of filming it?
Carolyn Miller: Thanks! The best part was “acting” alongside a cute co-star – my husband!
upfrontNY: How important was it for you to pay homage to your hometown?
Carolyn Miller: I really wanted to represent my “summers” as authentically as possible and felt the best way to do that would be to showcase my hometown. All the places in the video are real spots I grew up going to on Long Island during the summer months: All-American, Jones Beach, etc. You see me in my natural element!
upfrontNY: You will be playing the NYC Women of Country: Acoustic Night on Nov 19th. Can you tell us about this show?
Carolyn Miller: My friend Tim who works at Bravest on 2nd Avenue had this great idea to start acoustic country nights at his bar. He’s friends with a lot of the local country community and thought it would be fun to bring us together once a month to play live music there. We are all such good friends, so it was easy to jump on board and say yes! I helped him recruit some of the other female acts in town and here we are! I think this is the 4th all-female lineup.
upfrontNY: You are performing along with Jessica Rose and Stephanie Ryann. It is so great to see talented women supporting each other! How has performing in NYC help you build a relationship with other country artists from the area?
Carolyn Miller: It’s such a small little community here in NYC, but super tight knit. Everyone knows everyone – we try to help each other out whenever/however we can! We are all genuinely friends outside of music, too. It’s a lot of fun!
upfrontNY: You split your time between NY and Nashville. What is the best part of each?
Carolyn Miller: Nashville is hands down the most incredible country music community and scene. I always leave so fired up and inspired… but NY is home! All my family and friends are here so it’s nice to constantly go back and forth and have roots in both places.
upfrontNY: What is your favorite part of being on stage?
Carolyn Miller: Connecting with the crowd – seeing strangers smile, laugh, and cry all from your music!
upfrontNY: The New Year is right around the corner. What are your 2020 goals?
Carolyn Miller: I’m hoping to keep the momentum going and not keep people waiting for new music. I’d like to release new music pretty frequently in 2020. The industry is ever changing but I think now more than ever, it’s the time for single releases! Keep an eye out for a song called “Flatline” in the coming months – it’s a bit more edgy/rock, definitely influenced by my New York City roots. 🙂
