On Thursday, October 24th Donovan Woods will open for Ruston Kelly at Bowery Ballroom in NYC at 8 PM!
We had the chance to have a quick chat with Donovan ahead of his performance!
Get your ticket and come out for a night of great music!
upfrontNY: You are playing Bowery Ballroom in NYC, what are you looking forward to most?
Donovan Woods: It is a great venue with a lot of history. You hear about people playing shows there, and their first New York shows there all the time. I love the energy of feeling like you’re a part of something very cool when you’re there and you’re performing.
upfrontNY: What song are you looking forward to performing?
Donovan Woods: The opener is really good. It is a song I love to play. It’s the first song we play called “It’ll Work Itself Out”. It is usually my favorite one to play because it is so smooth and inviting.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your new single “Way Way Back”?
Donovan Woods: It is a brand new one. It is a modern situation of how hard it is to break up with people sometimes. It is so easy to keep in touch in a casual way these days. It is hard to really cut the cord of an old relationship sometimes. The nostalgia drives you back and it is much easier to fall victim to that these days.
upfrontNY: It is a great song. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your song “Next Year”?
Donovan Woods: It is about when you keep putting stuff off like when you’ll do it on Saturday because you’re too tired to do it on Thursday.
It is helping people put it into perspective and realize there is really no reason to put things off. I know it is easier said than done.
upfrontNY: One of the lyrics in the song is “Life moves on so daym fast”. We are already almost in 2020. What is something you have not done yet in this decade that you want to do?
Donovan Woods: Camping. I want to go camping with my kids. I want to do that as soon as we can.
upfrontNY: You have written songs for Tim McGraw and Charles Kelley. What was that like?
Donovan Woods: It is a trip. It is surreal to hear one of your songs sang by one of those voices. It is wild. I have been very lucky. i hear of people who don’t like new versions of songs they have written, but I have really loved every artists’ version. It has been a very positive experience.
upfrontNY: You are performing at Bowery Ballroom in NYC. Do you have a dream venue that you hope to one day perform?
Donovan Woods: In NYC – Carnegie Hall and St. Albert Hall
upfrontNY: Is there anything you want others to know about your upcoming performance?
Donovan Woods: It is a good introduction to the music. If you are coming to see Ruston Kelly perform, you should come early and hear it.
