Highway Women is an all women country band. Heather Harper, Amanda Pruitt, Drew Haley & Kristen Kae started off 2020 with a strong and powerful message in their song “God Made Me Right”. Check out our interview to learn more about their music!
upfrontNY: How was Highway Women formed?
Highway Women: Our owner Jill Pavel acquired the brand when she purchased the record label in 2017. She decided to launch a new band in 2018, with the sole mission of promoting positivity and empowerment to all women and girls.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your name?
Highway Women: In reality of course the Highwaymen inspired the idea of the name, but our reality and your reality is that behind every good man is a woman.
upfrontNY: You recently released your single “God Made Me Right”. Can you tell us about the song and the inspiration behind it?
Highway Women: It is a great opportunity being in the position we are to extend a message of self acceptance which is much needed. Children and adults experience pressure from the world to achieve an unrealistic standard of beauty. Seeing women of all ages find love for themselves and each other means more to us than anything.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your song “Stand Up and Fight”?
Highway Women: Wow what a great year we had in 2019 with “Stand Up and Fight”!
The song was pitched to us by Blue Water Music Group and Sean Gasaway (writers: Sean Gasaway, 2Steele Girls, and Buffy Lawson)
It was a great way to launch our mission of empowerment for women everywhere. The Women Riders World Relay chose our song to be their official 2019 theme song. Over 19K women motorcycle riders internationally participated in the first world wide motorcycle relay. We gained fans from all over the world and we were able to inspire women with the song to stand up and fight for their dreams.
upfrontNY: What is it like to be an all-female country group?
Highway Women: It is a blessing to be able to join other talented female artists and together create music with such an incredible message. We also have a lot of fun, look forward to touring and performing our music live.
upfrontNY: How important has it been to empower each other and other women?
Highway Women: It is everything, it is our mission.
upfrontNY: Who are some of the women who have inspired Highway Women and your music?
Highway Women: Well, we all know Kristen LOVES Reba,..and we all admire the female country artists that have come before us. But lets not forget our mothers, teachers, nurses, and leaders.
upfrontNY: What is your dream music venue, city, or country to one day perform?
Highway Women: CMA Awards
upfrontNY: You started off 2020 with this great anthem, what does 2020 look like for you?
Highway Women: Lots more to come, our music video is dropping, another single will drop the end of February, and stay tuned for more adventures, we hope to see you on the highway.
