Hunter and the Bear made their US debut last week, performing at several venues around the New York City area. The band, from Scotland and England, is comprised of Will (Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar), Jimmy (Lead Guitar, Mandolin, & Vocals), Gareth (Drums & Vocals), and Chris (Bass & Vocals).
Their music has been attached to the “Folk/Rock” genre. The band has had a lot of success, which includes supporting Eric Clapton on tour, followed by a headlining tour.
Parkside Lounge was one of the venues they played as part of the CMJ festival, and I had the opportunity to attend the show.
The band has the ability to captivate a crowd through their performance. The chemistry of the band started from the first song, “Burn It Up” and continued throughout the gig to their last song, “Like a Runaway”. While playing off each other’s energy on stage, it was very apparent that they were enjoying themselves through their music, and some of their entertaining stories from experiences that they shared, in between songs.
After the performance the band took some time to meet and chat with fans. They also had their CD on hand. I had the chance to take one home with me which I have been enjoying every day. It is hard to choose a favorite song because each song has a special quality to it.
Keep up to date with Hunter and the Bear!
