Check out our recent interview with RJ about acting, road trips, and skydiving!
upfrontNY: When you moved to LA did you ever imagine your life would take you down all of the paths that it has?
RJ Mitte: When you’re in this industry I don’t think you can imagine where this can take you. It has been crazy to see how it has evolved. I could never imagine my life being what it is, living the life I live today.
upfrontNY: How has life changed since seeing the description for “Breaking Bad” and booking the show?
RJ Mitte: It gave me a career. It gave me the opportunity to grow from it and continue to grow with what I am doing. It worked out better than I could have ever imagined. I am very blessed to do what I do and be a part of the projects that I have been able to be a part of.
upfrontNY: What has been the best experience of being an actor?
RJ Mitte: I like to play characters, have fun, work with a crew, with a family dynamic. I try to have that when I’m working.
upfrontNY: In “Who’s Driving Doug”, the characters go on a spontaneous road trip. Who would you want to go on a road trip with and where would you go?
RJ Mitte: I have had some crazy road trips over the last couple years. When I was a little kid, me and my mom would drive from Louisiana to LA all the time. I enjoyed that. I have a group of friends that I know, if we took a road trip, I would need to film it! You can learn a lot about someone when you’re in a car with them for a good couple hours.
upfrontNY: What has it been like filming “Triumph” ?
RJ Mitte: It has been fun. It’s about a high school wrestler. I think it’s going to turn out nicely. We have a big group of people. I have been lucky in my career from “Breaking Bad” to “Switched at Birth” to “Triumph”, and “Who’s Driving Doug.” I’ve always been lucky to work with amazing people, and people that I always learn something from. I’ve learned a lot about myself. That’s the opportunity about this job, it always challenges you and pushes you in a different direction that you would not necessarily be in otherwise.
upfrontNY: What are you most looking forward to in 2016?
RJ Mitte: It is going to be an interesting year. A lot can happen in a year and I am hoping it works out to my benefit. I have a few projects I am working on now. I am going to be finishing “Triumph” and “Who’s Driving Doug” is coming out. Whatever awaits me, I am ready to do it.
upfrontNY: You have had so many amazing experiences. Is there one thing you want to do or try?
RJ Mitte: There is so much. There are a couple projects I want to sink my teeth into and I am hoping to start trying and doing more action stuff. I really want to go skydiving this year. I have friends that go and I have wanted to try it. I always like trying new things.
Keep an eye out for RJ’s upcoming films!
