Jacob Buster is a very talented young actor. Jacob can be seen playing Charlie Bowman in the USA series, Colony. He can also be seen in The Christmas Project which is available on Amazon and Netflix. Check out our recent interview!
upfrontNY: What can you tell us about your show, Colony which is currently airing season 2 on the USA Network?
Jacob Buster: Anyone who watched Season 1 knows the show is about a nation divided and how the love of a family endures the battle of good vs. evil. In season 1, we only see how the city of Los Angeles has been taken over and cut off from the rest of the world in an alien invasion. In Season 2, Will goes beyond the wall to save my character, Charlie. We also discover that Los Angeles isn’t the only Colony. There are others. It’s quite the ride.
My character, Charlie’s, journey this season is a universal journey we all face. How do we return to normal after we’ve gone through something tragic, something that pushes us beyond what we thought our limits were? And what if there really is no going back, only going forward?
upfrontNY: What has been your favorite part about filming season 2 of Colony?
Jacob Buster: Without a doubt, the cast and crew! Josh and Sarah have not only taught me so much about acting by just watching their process, but they are so kind and humble. They are the kind of people I would like to be, as actors and as human beings. I know a lot of people in film say things like this but in this case, it’s actually true. I hope to carry this with me into my life, not just future roles.
upfrontNY: What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far while filming different projects?
Jacob Buster: I think as I’ve gotten older and had time off and on set, I’ve become more and more grateful for every opportunity I have to work in this industry. When I was younger I took it for granted. Time away makes me realize how much I love this job and how grateful I am for each opportunity. I realize every job could be my last, so I enjoy each moment and do my best every day. I’ve learned to do my very best every time, wherever I am!
upfrontNY: Who is your dream co-star?
Jacob Buster: Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, and the cast of Stranger Things.
upfrontNY: What are your favorite hobbies when you aren’t acting?
Jacob Buster: I’m a competitive soccer player. I also love music! I love singing, writing music, listening to music, anything with music. It’s kind of in my soul. I enjoy anything physical . . . hiking, biking, fishing, sports. I love being outside and hanging out with friends.
upfrontNY: What was it like filming the holiday film, “The Christmas Project”?
Jacob Buster: This was just pure fun! I loved the comedy and working with pretty much only kids. This is very different from my usual roles, which are typically darker and more dramatic. I also typically work with only adults. This group of kids was fantastic. We became such a family and I truly love them all.
upfrontNY: How do you prepare for an audition?
Jacob Buster: The key for me is memorizing at least the day before. If I have a night’s sleep on my memorizing, it seems to store in a different part of my brain and the recall is pretty natural. Then I don’t have to think, I can just be. Then, it’s just fun. I use my imagination and personal experiences when I’ve felt similar emotions. I’m fully present and listening. I love being in that place with reactions just coming from me. I’m not thinking. I’m just being. It’s my happy place, my jam!
upfrontNY: What is your ultimate dream as an actor?
Jacob Buster: My dream is to be able to continually work on projects I’m passionate about and to affect people and entertain them.
