Recently we got the opportunity to interview singer-songwriter Jamie Alimorad. We got the chance to talk to him about his new single, “Rock Me To Heaven,” attending Northeastern University, and working with his childhood idol, Gino Vannelli.
On what he loves most about pursuing music, “It’s the idea of being able to make something, call it your own, put it out there, and have people you hope enjoy it as well. I have always felt that in whatever I did with my life, I just want to bring a smile to a person’s face and make an impact. I feel like in my music, I can do that.”
When growing up, Jamie had many musical inspirations. At the age of 5 while in his parents car, he first heard the song “Talk To Ya Later” by The Tunes which he said was the song that changed his life. “It was so electric. There was so much energy in it and I had never heard anything like that before.”
It was very important to Jamie that he get an education. He attended and studied music at Northeastern University. “College opened my eyes to a lot of things. I am so thankful and happy that I went to Northeastern because that school, the campus, the city of Boston, and the people that I met really shaped me.” While in college Jamie pursued music, first in a band, and then he began a solo career. It was in the second half of his college experience that he knew that he wanted to get serious about a solo career and began rehearsing and gigging around Boston.
He is currently working on his new album. What started off as a 4-5 track EP has turned into a 10 track album, which he plans to finish recording this year. Jamie is so thankful to have the opportunity to work on this album with his childhood idol, Gino Vannelli. “It is completely surreal.” While working on the album, Gino suggested that Jamie sing one of his songs. The song chosen was “Rock Me To Heaven” which is Jamie’s first single from the new album. Jamie described to us how honored he was to record one of Gino’s songs. Gino completely reworked the track from the original, giving it a more modern pop feel.
Jamie finds inspiration from his music in many places and can be influenced to write a song in any setting. While walking the streets of Boston, the sounds of a car horn and traffic inspired a melody which made it on to his last album. As a songwriter, he was very excited to be invited to be a part of his first Storytellers Performance which took place at The Producer’s Club in New York City. “As a songwriter, I am always interested in where artists get their inspiration from, and what a song means to them. I get to be the one on stage telling people where the idea came from and how I did it.”
Not only is Jamie working on a solo career, but he also encourages others to pursue music too. He does music lessons, music community work, and is the musical director of an all woman’s singing group.
