Josh Levi began singing as a young child, but he really made a name for himself as a finalist on the X-Factor. He is well know for his awesome covers, but you can check out his original single “Doctor” out on iTunes!
Check out our interview with Josh!
upfrontNY: You’ve been singing since you were 5 years old, but how did the X Factor change things for you?
Josh Levi: X Factor pushed me to such a limit at 14 years old. I felt most of the time I was conquering my own fate, if that make sense. In the end, I’m fearless in everything I do.
upfrontNY: You had already been in show business before X Factor; how do you think those experiences helped you in the competition?
Josh Levi: It’s always helpful to begin believing in yourself before you ask other people to. Prior to doing something really intense like X Factor, I had already put in so many years of hard work and identifying what I wanted in my career musically and as an artist.
upfrontNY: You are currently signed with Island records and your single ‘Doctor’ recently came out; can you tell us more about your upcoming music?
Josh Levi: My band, Citizen Four, is going to be releasing a single at the beginning of 2017. We currently have a tastemaker song on Spotify and iTunes called COLD. We’ve recorded 200 songs it seems like, but we are extremely excited to show the world the type of authentic music and sound we’ve cultivated and believe in.
upfrontNY: You have acted in some big things like Friday Night Lights and have some current projects like the upcoming School Spirits can you tell us more about that?
Josh Levi: Yes, I recently filmed the role of Mickey in “School Spirits” in August. “School Spirits” is a Stranger Things Sci-fi type where students are mysteriously encountering different spirits within a school, set back in the early 2000s. I am really excited for everyone to see it. There was a really talented cast of my peers with Audrey Whitby, Piper Curda, Christian Delegrosso, Teala Dunn and Tiffany Alvord.
upfrontNY: You graduated High School this year and recently turned 18, but with such a busy schedule do you still find time to do typical teenager stuff? What do you like to do with your free time?
Josh Levi: I actually began my first year of online college subsequent to finalizing high school. Therefore, a lot of my downtime is dedicated to my degree. I’m currently garnering my Entertainment Business Bachelor’s and am happy to be able to somehow balance that with my crazy life of a schedule. I also enjoy doing escape rooms with my friends and family, watching How To Get Away With Murder, songwriting, and investing as much of myself as humanly possible in my family and their lives.
upfrontNY: If you weren’t in show business what would pursue?
Josh Levi: I feel like I would still somehow — no matter what — do something in entertainment, that’s just my purpose 🙂
I would love to be an olympian/athlete of some sort. My sister is an elite level 10 US rhythmic gymnast who has invested more than 12 years into her sport and I’ve supporter her from the beginning admiring the dedication and blood, sweat, tears, and fears that goes into an athlete’s lifestyle on that level. I would either be an olympic swimmer or track and field star
upfrontNY: You have done some awesome collaborations; what would be your dream collaboration?
Josh Levi: My dream collaboration would be with someone like Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, or Prince. I am extremely appreciative of artists that are culturally and socially powerful and influential. It’d be a dream to collaborate with someone as important as those artists especially in a society and world I live in today where help and change is needed.
upfrontNY: You are known for doing amazing covers; what is the process like when making it your own?
Josh Levi: Thank you. I genuinely just enjoy interpreting songs the way I do when wanting to commemorate an artist by doing their work. Also, most times I listen to what fans want to hear from me and have the goal in mind of inspiring them and making them proud. I am happy to have earned 164K subscribers of people to share my voice with.
