Luciana Maria is a singer/songwriter whose music ranges from Pop to R&B to Hip Hop. Check out our recent interview as we talk about her music, her “Hello Lulu” tour, and what is next.

upfrontNY: When did you discover your passion for music?

Luciana Maria: I always had a deep passion for music when I was younger. I was easily swept away by big theatrical songs, such as Disney movie songs and music that seem larger than life. It was a fantasy world I was able to get lost in. Music easily turned into a passion for me as I got older.

 

upfrontNY: How would you describe your music?

Luciana Maria: I would describe some of it as HipHop/R&B and also kind of bubble gum pop.

 

upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your singles, “Natural”, “You Do You”, and “Whole Crew”? Do you have a favorite of the three?

Luciana Maria:  I have to say “You Do You” and “Natural” are my top two out of those three. I love the emotion I poured into them! All three are special to me in one way or another.

My song “Natural” is a “love hurts” song. It tells the story of questioning acceptance from a significant other.

“You Do You” I wrote for those people that you can step back and look at, and just appreciate who they are as a person and what they are individually about.

“Whole Crew” is my answer to all the people that talk smack about me and my music. I wrote that song with the attitude of poking fun at myself while also being like “you can say all you want, but it won’t effect me”.

 

upfrontNY: What is your favorite part of the recording process?

Luciana Maria: Right now, writing lyrics and melodies. I have been really obsessed with melodies and runs. Although, I have to admit that my favorite part changes everyday because the whole process is what I love! 🙂

 

upfrontNY: Do you have a favorite lyric from your singles?

Luciana Maria: Yes, the line from “You Do You” – “Something about the way you look at me, makes me feel like a master piece, always showing how you truly love me, and how you want nothing else but me”.

This line resonates on a different level. When I wrote that line, I knew that line had to be a pre hook because the message behind it is deeper than what’s on the surface. I think it’s so beautiful when you think about someone looking at you like a master piece.

 

upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your tour “Hello Lulu”?

Luciana Maria: “Hello Lulu Tour” I created as a show for fans to get to know me and introduce myself to new fans. We toured High Schools in Southern California. The “Hello Lulu” tour has a particular place in my heart for what it was and how close I got to be with fans.

 

upfrontNY: Do you have a favorite performance or moment that stands out from the tour?

Luciana Maria: When we were at Edison High School for the second time, (Yes, they booked me twice in one tour- SO cool!) I had just had released “ You Do You.” We started to play it and they went crazy! And to my surprise, they knew every single word. I had never been through something like that as an artist, and it was a really a crazy feeling!

 

upfrontNY: Can you describe what it feels like to walk out on stage to perform?

Luciana Maria: It is the most unreal feeling. On stage, I feel alive, I feel myself, and I feel free. It’s one of the only places I feel like I can really be myself and not hide. It is unreal!

 

upfrontNY: What was it like having the headliner spot on the main stage of the 2018 Portland LGBTQ Pride Festival?

Luciana Maria: It was so fun and electric! Pride is always a blast. The crowd was amazing and full of fabulous beauties. I am really grateful for the opportunity, and can’t wait until next year!

 

upfrontNY:  If you could perform in any venue, city, or country where would it be?

Luciana Maria: I really want to perform at LA PRIDE or Coachella. Festivals are where I wanna be at!

 

upfrontNY: We are at the start of a new year. What are you most looking forward to in 2019?

Luciana Maria: All of my new music and collaborations. It’s about to be an amazing year.
