Madison Daniel, Australian born singer songwriter’s latest single celebrates LGBTQ love! Listen to ‘Love is Love’ on Spotify now!
upfrontNY: Tell us about your new single Love is Love and the message behind it.
Madison Daniel: I was in LA at the time of writing Love Is Love, while Australia was voting Yes or No for gay-marriage. It made me so angry it was a conversation and seeing LA pride going on at the time it inspires me to write about the situation in Australia in hope for us to be able to celebrate same-love as well. I took the song to Paul Beard and whilst we were developing it the votes came through and a yes and we decided to make it a super happy, celebratory track!
upfrontNY: Tell us about the music video for Love is Love. How did you come up with the concept?
Madison Daniel: The concept of the music video was always intended to be nice and simple; a montage of love. I had some of my really close friends involved behind the scenes and in the clip which made the two day shoot such a beautiful first music video experience.
upfrontNY: What is your music and performance style like?
Madison Daniel: It’s so tricky, like with my tastes and influences so broad. I want my own pop-edge sound and once I’ve established myself as an artists I can’t wait to break the rules and incorporate rap, pop, jazz, acoustic all into one kind of vibe.
upfrontNY: What inspires you when writing music?
Madison Daniel: In terms of inspiration, with both acting and music, for me it’s all about connection. I love connecting with all types of people and music and acting create that so strongly because you’re allowing yourself to be so free and vulnerable it opens other people up to do so as well and that’s why it makes the world such a happier place. I love making people feel through art, whether that’s through laughter or crying or loving.
upfrontNY: How did you first get involved in singing and acting?
Madison Daniel: I don’t recall the exact moment that I decided I wanted to act and do music, but my parents say that as soon as I could talk I was saying I wanted to sing and act and dance. I was brought up in a big crazy family, full of all-sorts of musical influences. My grandpa was a multi-instrumentalist who taught me theory and piano at a young age, my auntie is a singer and ever since I was little would sing with her. My dad was into old school rock, mum had a liking for alternative artists and my grandpa was predominantly a jazz and blues musician.
upfrontNY: What would be your dream venue to perform?
Madison Daniel: Madison Square Garden!
upfrontNY: What do you like to do when you are not singing/writing/acting?
Madison Daniel: I love to travel!! Explore new places, meet new people and laugh a lot. I’d say I’m an adrenalin junkie and love saying yes to new things whenever they appear.
upfrontNY: What artists do you relate to the most?
Madison Daniel: Artists who I really resonate with are artists such as Amy Winehouse and Ed Sheeran as they’re so raw and themselves and their delivery is so emotive. Like these artists, I always want my performances to deliver such honesty.
upfrontNY: You are also an actress, what type of role would you love to play in the future?
Madison Daniel: So many on the list!! I love playing extremes of any kind, whether that’s a character with a severe mental health issue or the absurd slapstick comedic character.
