Melody Alanna is on a mission! The New York native singer/songwriter recently released her debut single, “American Dream” and is inspiring others to follow their American Dream. Recently we got the chance to speak with the talented singer who describes her sound as dreamy-pop, girly, flirty, and sultry.
Melody has been singing her whole life. Her father was a musician and she grew up with music. “I’ve been singing my whole life in choir, in plays, talent shows, and in college I was in a choir. All of my friends said I needed to do something with this. I knew I should but I didn’t think I could.”
After she graduated college she knew she had so much potential and decided to follow her dreams and pursue music. She began going on auditions, singing with bands, and going to open mic nights. “I figured out along that way who I was as an artist, but it took a long time. “
This is where “American Dreams” began. “I wrote all about going out there and getting what you want, your American Dream. It does not have to be the traditional white picket fence or the husband, or living in suburbia or whatever the old traditional values of the American Dream were. I want people to go out there and get their American Dream. What the song really says is that the American Dream is specific to whatever you want it to be, you make the rules. In our generation there is innovation every second. It really is about innovation and going out there and getting what you want no matter what people say or how hard it gets. I really hope to inspire and encourage people to go after what they want. ”
On what American Dreams means to her: “I often reflect on how lucky I am to be in a place where people have died so I can get up every morning to feel like I can do whatever I want. For me it is freedom. The freedom to make those choices and do whatever you want and not be afraid of that. To embrace the fear and go after what you want.”
She believes that it is important for others not to give up. On what her American Dream is: “My American dream is to spread this message, to be a professional recording artist, and to go around the world spreading this message of freedom. “
Her dream is to inspire others just like many have inspired her. On who inspires her: “I spent a lot of time seeking advice, knowledge, and motivation. There is one artist that is the one that made me want to do this. I remember the day I saw her and thought oh my God I can do this. It was my junior or senior year. Her name is Lana Del Ray. I understand every word she said. She could truly be herself, and sing about things a lot of people don’t understand her. Her music, her style, her presence, and her brand, it was relatable. She has inspired me in tons of way. My president Tom Schumacher, he inspires me every single day and he has no idea I feel that way actually. He is the founder of Disney Theatrical Group. His visions have come to life. Working for him I have been inspired to create my visions and see where they go.”
On what she wants others to know: “I am working on an EP right now and it is going off the theme of American Dreams and all about living in your own world and making life what you want it. It will be an Inspirational album and artistic in a way that it brings these magical elements to life. ”
“American Dreams” is now on iTunes!
