Recently we got a chance to interview International pop star, Meredith O’Connor. At the age of 8, Meredith loved doing theatre productions. “Performing was a passion I had and something I loved to do.” She started song writing around the age of 14. She has a new album out, “I Am.”
Meredith’s hit song “Celebrity” went viral with over 2 million views. “We had no idea “Celebrity” would become viral like it did. Once I got the fans from that, I realized as scary as it was to talk about a powerful topic based on what I went through, it was important to me. Any time you have leverage, you should use it for good.”
Growing up, Meredith had been bullied by classmates. She was afraid to tell anyone. “I was bullied so badly that I didn’t tell anybody because I thought it was my fault.” After a conversation with music executives sharing what she had gone through, “I got really emotional and they told me I had to write a song about this. Releasing it, I went from not telling anyone to telling the world.”
Meredith has a passion for anti-bullying and travels to different schools, using her music to make a difference in the lives of those going through what she has gone through. Her slogan is You are not alone.“ When I was in middle school, I didn’t really have anyone to look up to as far as pop stars. I figured if there are people who look up to me, let me be the voice that I didn’t have growing up. That is what inspired me to get up and do something about it. Ever since then, I’ve gotten 1000s of letters from people saying that the music has taught them things they didn’t know. They didn’t know other people felt the same way.”
Meredith has done duets with Australian star Jordan Jansen (“Australia’s Got Talent”) and Garrett Clayton (TEEN BEACH MOVIE). “Duets are great. There is a whole other element when you bring someone else into the recording studio.” She told us “We had a lot of fun in the studio. It was fun to have another person doing vocals. Jordan is really funny and Garrett Clayton is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever worked with.”
Meredith teamed up with Champions Against Bullying who facilitated the set and did a lot for her music video for the song “Stronger” with Garrett Clayton. About the song’s message, “There is nothing is stronger than love.” In her music video we will see a special cameo from Madeline Stuart, the first model with down syndrome who she met at New York Fashion Week. “She has a cameo in the music video with me and Garrett. It was her first music video. I am honored to have someone who is such an inspiration. She can do whatever she wants, she is beautiful. She stands for so many amazing things. ”
Meredith has been inspiring so many people with her music. Head here to learn more about Meredith and her music.
