This model, actress, and yes, DJ has a lot going on! We caught up with her on everything from fitness to married life to her new film “The Tribes of Palos Verdes” set to release later this year.
upfrontNY: Tell us about “The Tribes of Palos Verdes” and your character, Gina?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: Yup, it was originally a book, which I didn’t know until I read the script. Gina is one of the “Tennis Girls” at the tennis club. It’s set in Palos Verdes where Jennifer’s character and her husband move with their two children. It’s supposed to be idyllic, but Jennifer’s character has a breakdown and her husband who’s a doctor becomes a doctor to the stars and she doesn’t like any of the women including me and the characters who are there at the tennis club. There is a little conflict there.
upfrontNY: What was it like working with Jennifer Garner, Alicia Silverstone and Elisabeth Rohm?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: I had a couple of scenes with Jennifer. I love her character in this film. It was great being on set with so many creative people!
upfrontNY: You started modeling before entering the acting world. Has modeling helped you in that transition?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: I think the modeling is not the same as acting, but doing a lot of commercials and just shooting everyday meeting different people, being on set and creating. When it’s pictures it’s different, but when you do commercial work you know there’s a story so it’s kind of like an introduction to acting. It’s nothing really like acting, but it did definitely helped me.
upfrontNY: What would be your dream acting job?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: There’s so many directors I love, I would love to work with, just getting a great script and working with one of the great directors would be a dream job for me. There’s so many I want to work with.
upfrontNY: How did you get into DJ’ing?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: Well, I’m from London and there’s a huge music culture in England and I always loved music. So I started DJ’ing with another girl. We toured around the world, going all over the world doing gigs and fashion parties. We produced a couple of songs and worked with EMI a couple of times. I always liked being creative and I love to try new things, the creative process of it.
upfrontNY: Could we expect original music from you?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: I don’t think so right now. I still love music and I’d love to do something maybe in the future for sure.
upfrontNY: You are very active including doing Wushu a type of martial arts, can you tell us more about that and how did you get involved?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: I just love martial arts so I tried a couple of things — different types of martial arts — and I just loved Wushu. I started training with this guy in L.A. and he’s amazing and he trained Jet Li. He’s so amazing and it is so beautiful because Wushu is almost like a dance. It’s really beautiful, but it’s a skill as well and it’s a really good thing to do and it’s a little bit different, but it makes you feel like you’ve achieved something when you learn how to do it.
upfrontNY: Do you think that is something you would want to do that in a roll or do you like to keep those things separate.
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: I would definitely do that in a role, for sure. It would be so much fun.
upfrontNY: You are very fit, but do you have any guilty pleasures?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: Oh, Yeah! For sure! I love chocolate and ice cream. I think if you work out you can have your days with your guilty pleasures.
upfrontNY: You are a newlywed. How is married life treating you?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: It’s great, it’s awesome, it’s so much fun. So it’s a bit new, we just had our first Valentine’s day being married.
upfrontNY: Did you do anything exciting for that?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: We just went to a restaurant we really love.
upfrontNY: Would you like to let our readers know anything else about you?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: Well I’m just back in L.A. now, I’m between New York and L.A.. It’s pilot season so I have quite a few projects coming up, but there’s nothing to announce at the moment, but I will keep you posted!
upfrontNY: So what do you love about New York?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: I love New York. I love the city. It’s an amazing energy I just went to see “Sunday in the Park with George” with Jake Gyllenhaal. So you should check that out. It was great he was brilliant. I actually went opening night. It was awesome.
upfrontNY: Do you notice a difference in the acting and modeling world from L.A. to NY?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: I mean the only thing about L.A. is there is no theatre. Well there is theatre, but it’s not like NY. It’s very stage oriented, I think, in NY. Which I love. I think it’s brilliant.
upfrontNY: Would you consider doing theatre yourself?
Natalie Loren Kwatinetz: Absolutely!
