Nathan Arenas is a talented, funny young actor that made us laugh and he can be seen on Disney Channel’s Bunk’d!
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about the show Bunk’d and your character Jorge?
Nathan Arenas: Well, Bunk’d is about the Ross kids from the show Jessie. They’re heading to a summer camp, called Camp Kikiwaka, which is located in Maine. There, they find new friends and they go on incredible adventures and spend their days at camp. And Jorge, he’s got this very wide imagination, very expanded. He is also known for telling fibs. You’ve got to meet him!
upfrontNY: You said it was a spinoff of Jessie, did you watch Jessie before you auditioned for Bunk’d?
Nathan Arenas: Yes, I did actually. I did watch Jessie a lot. It was actually my favorite Disney show. So, that was even more awesome when I heard I booked the show [Bunk’d]. That was even more exciting and I was like “Oh my God. It’s the cast of Jessie!” So, it was really cool.
upfrontNY: You play Ravi’s best friend and cause some mischief on the show, in real life are you two close and cause mischief on set?
Nathan Arenas: I don’t really cause any mischief on set, but me and Karan are actually really close. I feel like he is an older brother because I honestly consider the whole cast family and we’ve been working together for two years. So, yeah, I consider Karan an older brother. He’s a role model too and he’s teaching me stuff on set. For example, camera angles and also to always be polite and humble.
upfrontNY: What do you and the rest of the cast enjoy doing together?
Nathan Arenas: We always spend lunch together, that’s like a cast thing because why not, right. We’ve done laser tag which is pretty cool. We’re all really competitive, so it kind of makes sense.
upfrontNY: What’s the best part of being part of the whole Disney Family?
Nathan Arenas: The best part about being a part of the Disney family would probably be getting recognized, I guess, because it tells me that I’m doing a good job, that I’m doing a good job on set. To me, that’s one of the best things about being part of the Disney family.
upfrontNY: You are fluent in Spanish, do you think we will ever see you in a Spanish speaking role or a Telenovela?
Nathan Arenas: Definitely, that’s a goal for me. My whole family is from Mexico.
upfrontNY: Do you see yourself being an actor when you grow up?
Nathan Arenas: Yeah, definitely. That is a thing I want to keep doing in life. I definitely want to keep being an actor.
upfrontNY: If you weren’t an actor what would you want to be?
Nathan Arenas: This is something I would do even if I was still an actor, but I would try to keep going to be a professional magician. I honestly love making someone feel or see something that to them it seems impossible and make it a bit possible for a couple moments. I’ve been doing amateur close up and card magic for a year and a half so I really want to grow and be a professional magician.
upfrontNY: Do you have any favorite magicians?
Nathan Arenas: I love street magic, so I mean of course David Blaine. He’s an inspiration and the fact that he’s not afraid of death, it just captured me. It’s amazing and he has done so many amazing things for the magic world. And there’s also this person called Shin Lim which is also an inspiration. He was actually on the show where he fooled the biggest magicians, Penn and Teller, which is incredible, but I could go on and on.
upfrontNY: What’s something you have learned from David DeLuise, your mentor?
Nathan Arenas: I mean apart from him being so talented, he is such an awesome guy. Yeah, he is my mentor. He taught me a lot. Jorge is mainly about his punchlines; he comes in with his one liners. He actually influenced a lot of that and he’s taught me how to actually hit those.
upfrontNY: What do you like to do for fun besides acting?
Nathan Arenas: Magic is definitely one of them. But, besides magic and acting I love to draw and read. I really love books because I mean it’s a whole story that either it’s based on a true story or it’s not a real story, but it just captures me, you know. Once you get into a book you have to keep reading. It’s just like a T.V. show. Yeah, besides reading I love to draw. Like I was saying about the story, drawing either a portrait or abstract, whatever it is, it contains a story which is beautiful.
upfrontNY: If there was a book they turned into a movie what one would you want to be in?
Nathan Arenas: I’m looking around at all the books I have. There’s a series called Pendragon. A lot of people, when I say Pendragon they might think it’s that King Arthur book, but it’s not. It’s actually based on this boy named Bobby Pendragon whose uncle can travel through time and he tries to save certain things. It’s really a good book you’re probably going to like it. So, Pendragon, that movie, hopefully it could be a movie. If it was I definitely would want to play in it.
upfrontNY: Is there anything you would like to share with our readers?
Nathan Arenas: I’ll just say Thanks for watching! It shows that I’m doing a good job!
