New Dialogue is a female fronted alternative-pop quintet. They will be playing Bowery Ballroom in NYC on March 14th. The band consists of Ela Kitapci (vocals), Taylor Morrow (vocals), Jason Rodriguez (drums), Michael Sevilla (guitar), and Jeff Badagliacca (bass). We chatted with Taylor Morrow about their upcoming show, their music, and what 2019 looks like for the band.
upfrontNY: What are you most excited about playing Bowery Ballroom in NYC?
Taylor Morrow: It will be our first time playing in NYC! We are so excited to experience that energy for the first time.
upfrontNY: What are you most looking forward to being on tour with Smallpools?
Taylor Morrow: We absolutely love their vibe and have been fans of their music for some time now so we are ecstatic to meet the guys and see them kill it every night.
upfrontNY: You recently wrapped your first tour opening for lovelytheband. What was your favorite memory from this tour?
Taylor Morrow: Probably the show at Northern Arizona University. We got the opportunity to support lovely directly that night and it was a really incredible experience. The whole show was amazing and the boys in lovely, as well as everyone that we met after the show, were so kind and full of love. Definitely a standout moment for us.
upfrontNY: Can you describe that feeling when you are on stage performing?
Taylor Morrow: It is a complete and total sense of bliss. Like there is one singular thing that we were intended to do and, in that moment, we are doing exactly that.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your EP that is set to release later this year?
Taylor Morrow: It is the culmination of about a year of work behind the scenes. The songs that we have already released will comprise part of it along with some new tunes. We are thrilled to put it out into the world as the first collection of songs.
upfrontNY: When filming the music videos for your songs “Fake Smile” and “Neon Ocean” where did you find your inspiration?
Taylor Morrow: “Fake Smile” was the first video so we wanted to capture the emotional aesthetic of the song while creating some images that also introduced the band for the first time visually. “Neon Ocean” was a little more conceptual, driven by the idea that we all have an internal dialogue that exists within the psyche that the outside world never really sees. We wanted to illustrate that concept as it relates to the song itself as well as add some live performance pieces since “Fake Smile” didn’t feature any of that in the traditional sense.
upfrontNY: Both of these songs are very relatable- What is it like to see fans connecting with your music?
Taylor Morrow: It truly is the greatest feeling. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the love and reception of all such wonderful people and it is our favorite thing about it all… to see a connection with other people through the music we create.
upfrontNY: You have a new song “Are You Like Me”- what are the emotions like right before others hear one of your songs for the first time?
Taylor Morrow: Nervous. Without a doubt. Every time. It’s such a strange sensation to have created this thing and then just let it go out into the world for people to interact with and react to. Always exciting though too.
upfrontNY: What is the bands’ dream venue, city, or country to play?
Taylor Morrow: Oh man, too many to list, honestly. We can’t wait to get overseas and play some of the iconic venues and festivals abroad but there are also a handful of places on the bucket list stateside as well, especially at home in LA like the El Rey and Wiltern.
upfrontNY: What does 2019 look like for New Dialogue?
Taylor Morrow: ALL GOOD THINGS! There are some wonderful things already locked in that we are ecstatic about and even more in the works but mostly it will be comprised of formally introducing the band to as many new people and places as possible through new music, live shows and everything in between.
