Nikki Hahn chatted with us about acting, music, and more. Check it out!
upfrontNY: When did you know you wanted to pursue acting and music?
Nikki Hahn: I have been acting since I was 4 and I honestly can’t remember a time when I wasn’t acting. At home I would beg my mom to act out Cinderella with me, so it’s always been something I wanted to do, even before I really knew what acting was. Music came a little later when I was about 7. I used to sing musical theater and it wasn’t until I was 10 when I first sang a pop song for an audition. When I was 12, I started playing guitar and listening to Taylor Swift, and that’s when I became hooked on music.
upfrontNY: Do you have a favorite experience from playing Gina on “American Housewife”?
Nikki Hahn: What was really cool about that role was that it was originally a guest star for one episode. When I had finished filming the first episode the producers told me they had written another episode for me. I really had a blast filming the show and everyone was so sweet. I actually became really good friends with Julia Butters while on set. We made up so many inside jokes and I love reuniting with the cast at events!!
upfrontNY: You played Emily Cooper in “Adventures in Babysitting”. What was it like being in a Disney Channel original film?
Nikki Hahn: I’m so grateful that I got to work on “Adventures in Babysitting”. The cast became family and we really did have an adventure while filming. I also got to meet my best friends because of Disney, so Adventures in Babysitting really did change my life.
upfrontNY: What was it like working with Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson and do you have a favorite memory from filming?
Nikki Hahn: Sabrina and Sofia became my big sisters and I really looked up to them while filming. My favorite memory during filming was the pantry scene that Max and I were in. Max was supposed to be casually snacking on croutons, but they happened to be huge and very dry so he couldn’t even say his lines and I couldn’t stop laughing. This hilarious scene definitely made it on the blooper reel.
upfrontNY: What kind of role or film would you like to be in one day and who would you like to work with?
Nikki Hahn: I would love to be a villain in a future Star Wars film. I’d also love to be back on American Horror Story. I had the best time working on Asylum and it’s currently my favorite show. An actor I’d like to work with is Adam Driver. He’s my all time favorite actor.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your single “In My Head” and the inspiration behind it?
Nikki Hahn: In My Head is the first song that I ever wrote. It’s based on personal experience, so it actually started off as a journal entry. It took about a year to finish because I originally wrote it to be acoustic and more singer-songwriter, and ended up wanting it to be pop instead.
upfrontNY: You have been working on your EP to be released later this year. What has been the best part of this process?
Nikki Hahn: I really wasn’t going to rush into it but I started picking up momentum with writing, and especially now that I’m staying home I have a ton of time to write. I think the best part is just getting to write about my own experiences and feelings, and getting to turn it into art.
upfrontNY: You posted a cover of Always Remember Us This Way on your YouTube channel. Do you have plans to release other covers while being in quarantine?
Nikki Hahn: Definitely!! I love learning new songs so there will definitely be more up on my channel soon!!
upfrontNY: How has music been helping you get through this difficult time?
Nikki Hahn: I’ve been using this time to work on writing, singing, guitar, and piano, so I’m definitely not bored! I’m taking advantage of this quarantine to create without distractions.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about the charities you work with and how important it is for you to give back?
Nikki Hahn: I support several charities for children and animals. I have performed for the kids at the LA Children’s Hospital during Christmas time. I’ve performed on a couple productions of Kitty Bungalow’s Benefit show to rescue feral cats in LA. I also helped cook a meal and perform for the women and children at the Alexandria House and that was such an amazing experience. It is very important to give back and raise awareness, so I try to get involved every chance I can.
