Parker Polhill is a pop-heavy R&B singer from Atlanta. Having just come off a national tour he recently released his latest single “No Talk Tonight”!
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your new single “No Talk Tonight”?
Parker Polhill: Everyone has that one person they miss/want to talk to but know they shouldn’t. “No Talk Tonight” is a song I wrote with two friends of mine that explains how I went about “not talking” to an ex of mine… 😉
upfrontNY: How would you describe your style and sound?
Parker Polhill: I’d describe my sound as pop music with R&B and EDM undertones.
upfrontNY: You do some of your recording in Phoenix. Phoenix is not commonly known for its music scene, what made you choose that city?
Parker Polhill: I actually just moved to Phoenix and haven’t gotten too into the music scene here. I don’t think there is a huge one. I write and produce alone when I’m in AZ for the most part. I do spend a good bit of time in LA and some in Chicago to collaborate with friends of mine. I wrote “No Talk Tonight” in LA with a couple buddies of mine!
upfrontNY: You’ve studied audio-engineering; having worked on the technical side of music does that affect how you produce your own?
Parker Polhill: It definitely has. I’m not incredible at mixing & mastering by any means, but I understand music better sonically after studying it. As an artist it’s helped a ton also. I can communicate with other engineers easier if I hear a certain sound I’m trying to get to.
upfrontNY: Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Parker Polhill: The only pre-show ritual I have right now is a few minutes of alone time and then a Tito’s shot with my DJ before we go on. I haven’t had a ton of shows yet so I’m sure I’ll pick up a few pre-show rituals the more I tour!
upfrontNY: What artists do you like to listen to?
Parker Polhill: I listen to all types of music. It would take too long to say every artist I listen to, but I mostly listen to rap and pop music. I’ll listen to Brett Young or Michael Bublé also. It really depends my mood. Most of the time, I play rap or my music though.
upfrontNY: What is your favorite venue you have played so far?
Parker Polhill: My favorite venue I’ve played so far is Stubbs in Austin Texas or Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta. The venue and energy at the Stubbs show was great! It was my first time performing and looking up at people on a balcony while performing so it was a cool experience. Eddie’s is the first venue I ever played at and is the classic good vibe listening room. Eddie’s gives you the setting where you can tell the stories behind songs and be conversational with the crowd so I really enjoy Eddie’s Attic also!
upfrontNY: What do you like to do for fun besides music?
Parker Polhill: Sports. Anything sports. Im’ a huge football and basketball guy! Falcons are winning the Super Bowl this year don’t @ me. War Eagle! Rise Up! LetsGoHawks!
