Sometimes fate brings people together, and in Cullen King and Sean Hoyt’s case, it brought them together to take their interest in music a step further. Cullen and Sean went to high school together, but did not know each other very well.
During their senior year of high school, they worked together on a group project, Sean told us, “We ended up being partners out of pure chance. He (Cullen) knew I did music, I knew he sang, and we ended up doing a rap battle. It was a knock off of a YouTube series, Epic Rap Battle of History. We played two characters in history. We rap battled it out and we decided to make music together after that. We worked together so well and it was a lot of fun.”
A class project brought them together, an interest in music connected them, and Point Blank Society was born. With almost 100 people at their first show together they knew it was something they wanted to pursue.
“Our connection on stage, our energy on stage, and how we act on stage together was what pushed us forward to say, hey, we need to keep doing this, set some goals, come out with some original music, and we did because we knew we had such a good chemistry on stage.”
The band loves playing in Texas and hope to one-day play Madison Square Garden in New York City.
“We love doing shows everywhere, but our favorite ones have been right at home or in Texas. It is where we started and where our main support is. When we play in Dallas, everyone is so excited, it is our favorite place to perform, especially with the energy of people while we are on stage.”
When it comes to musical taste, “When we first started the band, we had clashing music tastes and it was something we worried about, and over the past year or so, our musical tastes have conformed and become one.”
The duo was recently mentioned on MTV with their remake of Selena Gomez’s song Same Old Love.“That was a surprise to us. It was a really cool thing. We have never gotten featured on something as big as MTV and it was even cooler because we didn’t have to reach out to them. They had discovered us and it was so much more satisfying for that reason.”
With 2016 right around the corner, “We are hoping to have a full nationwide tour for the summer and a full album release. All our energy is going toward this album. We want to come up with something original and something that speaks to people. “
Thanks to Cullen and Sean for taking some time to talk to us about their music. These guys were so awesome to talk to, very talented, and have a big future ahead of them. We can’t wait to see what is next from Point Blank Society!
