We got the chance to chat with Dave Helbig who is the co-founder of the country band RiverShine.
Dave has been interested in music since he was a young child. Growing up in a family surrounded my musicians, he remembers going to watch his father play every weekend. Dave began pursuing music in high school and at around 18 or 19 he began playing around town. That was just the start for him.
In his career, Dave has had the opportunity to open for some of the biggest names in country music, including Jason Aldean, Eric Church, and Craig Morgan and we asked if he had the opportunity to open for anyone who would it be. “I actually started my career back when Jason had come out with ‘Hicktown’ and Eric Church was doing ‘Drink in My Hand’. These guys were playing the small clubs in the middle of Kentucky and I was in the house band that was doing the club. I would love to be on tour with any one of them.”
Dave played with another band for 10 years, then decided to put together a new band which became RiverShine. We spoke to Dave about his transition between bands. “I had some experience and knew what I was going for when I wanted to put something together. It is not always the easiest thing to do, but I think we came together with some great players.”
He worked very hard to find the right musicians for the band. “Like any country musician you just hope it clicks with the people, the fans. We have a good set of songs that we really worked on from some great songwriters. There’s a couple on there that we wrote. For the most part we really dug in deep, found some good writers and some good songs, and here we are.”
The band has currently been in the recording studio working on their album “All About The Ride” which is set to be released this Fall. The band has had the opportunity to work with the legendary singer/songwriter/producer Mark Slaughter to produce this album. Dave met Mark about 10 years ago when he was in another group. A friend of a friend introduced him to Mark. “Mark is a genius. His records speak for themselves.” It has been a great experience for the band and working with Mark on a country album, “ I think the guy outside the box is probably one of the best producers you can get because he’s thinking in a whole different light.”
RiverShine is going to have a digital release. “We tried to mix it up. We have some hardcore country. We’ve got some rockin’ country. We tried to cover all the bases.”
Make sure to follow Rivershine to keep up to date with their music!
