Ron J. Rock can be seen on BET’s popular show Games People Play, has his own production company, and is bringing his musical to New York!
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about Games People Play and your character, Jason?
Ron J. Rock: It’s a show about the life in L.A. The title of the show Games People Play explains what the show is about, the life in L.A., what goes on in relationships especially with people our age. I think it’s a phenomenal way to show these things. I play Jason who is Laila’s love interest [Parker McKenna Posey]. We’re back in high school and I’m her lover boy. I don’t want to tell you exactly what happens but episode 6 should be really interesting.
upfrontNY: Were you familiar with the book before you got the role?
Ron J. Rock: I was, I heard about it and then obviously when the role picked up I looked more into it and I just thought it was phenomenal.
upfrontNY: You were in Den of Thieves alongside Gerard Butler and 50 Cent; what was it like getting to work with them?
Ron J. Rock: It was actually really cool. You would think 50 Cent is this tough guy and really scary, intimidating, but he Is actually one of the nicest guys I have ever met and one of the smartest people I have ever met. So, it was cool. On and off set he would help me with acting, help me with just talking about life and business. We’re both from New York so it was cool. Gerard as well, he was a very cool, just down to earth guy. His trailer was next to mine so we hit it off really well.
upfrontNY: Now you have a production company, can you tell us more about that and what projects we can expect to see soon?
Ron J. Rock: Yeah, it came about through just being in the acting world. A lot of times people don’t create their own content and I’m someone who is creative. I was like “Hey, let’s create my own content, let’s see where things go.” And I just started doing that. There’s a couple of projects that I’m working on and you guys will see some of those things later this year.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about the upcoming musical Only Human?
Ron J. Rock: It’s going to be coming out in October on Broadway. My friends and I produced it. It’s a story of the Bible through the devil’s eyes. So, it’s pretty cool. It’s a musical and it’s for all demographics: kids, families, older people, everyone will love it. Anyone who doesn’t like the story of the bible would get interested in it.
upfrontNY: You also work in the restaurant and travel industries; can you tell us more?
Ron J. Rock: Well, it’s I guess my hobby. I’ve always had a passion to curate events. So, I produce events around the world, anywhere from exclusive birthday parties to trips. I plan trips all the time, like a mini concierge service that I offer. It’s fun. I meet a lot of very great people.
upfrontNY: Have you ever had any crazy requests?
Ron J. Rock: I think the craziest request I ever got was one time we were in France and last-minute one of my clients actually asked to get a yacht. He ended up buying a yacht just randomly. That was just pretty unheard of, I had never seen that. But, yeah within like two days this guy bought a yacht.
upfrontNY: You said you got into producing because of acting, how did you get into acting?
Ron J. Rock: It just kind of runs in the family. I started acting in third grade and I just never gave it up. I was doing plays all through school and then after high school I went to New York Film Academy and got more into acting for film. Ever since I did my first short film with Caleb McLaughlin, who was really great, he’s in Stranger Things now. It’s just been a very interesting world of people I’ve met and the road it’s taken me on and the things you do from it. So, I was just like let’s do both; let’s act, produce, let’s write, let’s do it all.
upfrontNY: You’re from New York what’s your favorite part about New York or the thing you miss the most?
Ron J. Rock: Oh, my god I miss It all the time! My favorite thing to do in New York is just walking around. It’s such a fascinating city, the energy there is like no other place. There’s no place like home. I love to walk and see everything in New York.
upfrontNY: Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Ron J. Rock: Just look out for episode six on Games People Play. It’s going to be every exciting. The show has a lot of viewers and it’s a great phenomenal cast. Really look out for episode six, that’s when I’m on it. There will be fun twists and turns.
