Stelle Amor is a Nashville-based “soul-ternative” singer who’s released her new EP album May 2017. Her new single, “Spike’s Groove” can be heard on various music and digital platforms. In the meantime, get to know Stelle!
upfrontNY: Tell us about your new single, “Spike’s Groove.” What was your recording process like? What can you tell us about the new music video?
Stelle Amor: “Spike’s Groove” is one of my favorite songs on the record. It’s sultry and dives into the more romantic side of my life, a pulsing, raw love song. This song was almost effortless to record for me – it’s in my sweet spot, vocally, and came out with ease. The music video was made to reflect more of the sultry vibe than tell a story, it’s nonsensical but magical just like love.
upfrontNY: You’ve gotten to work with many talented musicians, is there any one particular artist that stands out? What have you learned from working with them?
Stelle Amor: I’ve been lucky to work with some of the worlds greatest. It’s hard to pick one that stands out when they all shine so bright. I guess if I have to pick I would say my trombone player Roy Agee. He has seen and done so many amazing things but still stays so humble and kind. It’s easy to get an ego in this business and it’s always refreshing to work with people who understand we all started somewhere. Some of the best advice Roy has given me is to “play” – it’s in this child-like state that we create the most beautiful genuine things.
upfrontNY: Your new EP just came out, what are your goals and aspirations for this new album?
Stelle Amor: It’s my goal to serenade the world and I hope this record gives me that opportunity.
upfrontNY: Who are your musical inspirations?
Stelle Amor: I have so many!!! I am obsessed with the twenty-sevens club though: Janis, Jimi, Amy, Kurt, Bradley – all so EPIC and legendary!
upfrontNY: What was it like moving to Nashville to pursue your music career?
Stelle Amor: It was a little tough the first two years. I was a baby and went from the “big fish in a small pond” to one of the thousands in Nashville trying to pursue music. Even though it took some time, it was worth the wait to find the amazing team I have now.
upfrontNY: Do it find it easier to write songs about real life experiences or just using your own imagination?
Stelle Amor: I like doing both, I write so much I have to spice it up.
upfrontNY: What advice would you give someone starting out in the music business?
Stelle Amor: Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.
upfrontNY: You’ve described your music as Soulternative, can you explain to us what that means?
Stelle Amor: It’s my way of not being boxed in and staying true to my sound. “Soul” is just a part of my voice and who I am; “alternative” just leaves room to do whatever else I want.
upfrontNY: If you could compare your sound to any other artist who would you pick?
Stelle Amor: This one is tough. I guess if we are talking modern, it would be Andra Day. If we’re going back I would say Janis or Amy.
upfrontNY: What are your favorite hobbies outside of music?
Stelle Amor: Gardening (I love my plants!!!), crafting, painting, being in nature, watching the clouds and, most importantly, being with the people I love.
