Sweet Bump It Knows How To Rock
I had the chance to chat with lead vocalist, Paco Nicole of the talented band, Sweet Bump It. This 7-piece rock and roll band is based out of Los Angeles, California. This band is comprised of, Paco Nicole (guitar, lead vocals), Andrew Parker (guitar), Jenna Eyrich (bass), Jay Doo (Drums), Lisa Deines, Francesca Salac, and Marlaine Reiner (background vocals).
Sweet Bump It released their first EP First Slice in September of 2013. They will be releasing a self-titled album which will be out in March 2015. This release will include their songs “Animal” and “Energy”. Both songs will be featured in the season 3 Cinemax show “Banshee”. This band is making moves and sounds like they have great plans for 2015!
Interview
upfrontNY: How long has Sweet Bump It been together?
Sweet Bump It: The 4 instruments got together the beginning of 2013. Then by April of 2013 we were a septet.
upfrontNY: How was the band formed?
Sweet Bump It: Jenna and I have been playing since high school. This band is just like the evolution of that relationship and friendship.
upfrontNY: How would you describe your sound?
Sweet Bump It: It’s a mix between rock and roll and funk and soul. It’s like groove, the way we describe it and the way it’s been described to us. It’s stuff you’ve heard before but put together and arranged differently.
upfrontNY: What does rock and roll mean to you?
Sweet Bump It: It’s a feeling, a spirit, a vibe, an attitude, an idea, a lifestyle. It just means listening to whatever vibe, whatever feeling is out there in the universe and translating it for everybody. Rock and Roll is being true to yourself and I have to play this kind of music because it’s in me.
upfrontNY: Two of your songs, “Energy” and “Animal” are featured on Cinemax’s show Banshee. What is it like to hear your songs on TV?
Sweet Bump It: It’s very awesome, feels really cool to be taken seriously and to be respected by other artists out there. Banshee is an amazing show and I don’t think there is really much out there on television like it. Hearing the show runner tell us, “the crew loves your band”, it feels incredible. I have been waiting all this time since picking up the guitar to be respected in this way.
upfrontNY: Do you have any shows that you would love to be on to perform?
Sweet Bump It: A late night show like Conan or Jimmy Fallon. It would be really exciting and we can be ourselves and do what we love, perform.
upfrontNY: With a new year started, do you guys have any big 2015 goals?
Sweet Bump It: We are releasing an album in March. We are also planning to go on a mini-west coast tour, Seattle, Portland, the Bay Area, somewhere in Central California, LA, OC. We will probably shoot some music videos.
