Check out our interview with Thomas!
upfrontNY: How did you get involved with acting?
Thomas Barbusca: My sister, she is an actress and started really young. I was always around it and got kind of jealous and wanted to do it too. I really like it. It is one of my favorite things in the world.
upfrontNY: What do you love about it?
Thomas Barbusca: Playing different characters. It is always super fun.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about your new show, ‘The Mick’ and your character Chip?
Thomas Barbusca: ‘The Mick’ centers around Kaitlin Olson who plays my crazy Aunt Mickey and she comes to my mom, her sister for a handout and one thing leads to another and my parents go to jail for security fraud and I am in the hands of my Aunt Mickey. Chip is very entitled and can be a jerk sometimes and his parents have been indicted for federal fraud . He thinks he should be in charge and is the man of the house. They don’t always see eye to eye but he has a good heart and he is really funny.
upfrontNY: The show looks really funny! What was it like every day on set?
Thomas Barbusca: It is so fun. We all laugh all day on set. Kaitlin is hysterical and it is so hard to keep a straight face with her. We all get along great and have a great time.
upfrontNY: What was it like when you found out you booked the role for this show?
Thomas Barbusca: It was one of the best moments ever. That is my dream to be on a show ever since I was 5 years old. Getting the call was just the most amazing moment in my life because that is what I’ve been waiting for my whole life. I really wanted the role, it was really funny.
upfrontNY: Can you tell us about ‘Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life’ and your role as Leo?
Thomas Barbusca: Playing Leo was a great experience. The role was a lot of fun to play and Leo is always up to something. We shot the whole movie in Atlanta for a few months. We shot it in a school. We all got along really good and we would hang out all the time off set and on set. It was one of the best experiences ever.
upfrontNY: Do you still stay in contact with the people you were in the movie with?
Thomas Barbusca: Yeah, they are all my best friends.
upfrontNY: You have a lot of great credits to your name. Is there a certain type of role that you hope to play one day?
Thomas Barbusca: I really like Biopics and would love to play in a Biopic playing an actual person. That would be so awesome.
upfrontNY: Do you have anyone you really hope to work with one day?
Thomas Barbusca: Robert De Niro
upfrontNY: You have been in several commercials. What do you enjoy most about filming commercials?
Thomas Barbusca: Commercials are so fun. They are only a day or two to film. The Geico Peter Pan one in particular was so much fun and I got to use a harness. I was able to fly around and almost that whole commercial was improvised.
upfrontNY: Do you get ready for commercials differently from film and television?
Thomas Barbusca: No, I would say the same way. I just stay really focused and try to tap into that character.
upfrontNY: Are there any commercials or campaigns you would really like to be a part of?
Thomas Barbusca: I feel like a Nike campaign or Adidas. Some type of shoe campaign would be fun to do.
upfrontNY: When you are not acting what do you like to do?
Thomas Barbusca: I love to hang out with my family and friends as much as I can. I love going to basketball games. I just recently started going to basketball games and they are really fun.
upfrontNY: The year is right around the corner. ‘The Mick’ is premiering on January 1st so I’m sure for you that is a great way to start your new year. Do you have any other goals or projects for the new year?
Thomas Barbusca: I’d love to do another movie. Those are so fun. You are on set for a couple months and you build a family. I’d love for ‘The Mick’ to go like 10 more seasons.
upfrontNY: It looks like it was great to film!
Thomas Barbusca: It is! ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ is one of my favorite shows of all time and I always wanted to work on that show. Now I get to work with most of the writers from that show and Kaitlin who is one of my favorite actresses ever and the whole crew.
upfrontNY: Is there anything you want others to know?
