Tom Chaplin took the NYC Bowery Ballroom stage on January 19th. Known as the frontman of the 2x Grammy nominated UK band Keane, he has stepped out on his own with the release of his first solo album on January 13th, ‘The Wave’ via Arts and Crafts.
After 3 years of a battle with addiction, he has used his music to tell his story of the journey he has gone through which has led to redemption and self love. Tom has taken the most difficult time in his life and has turned it into a self-penned album, opening the curtain to the man behind the music.
Fans stood anxiously waiting as Tom took the stage opening with “Still Waiting” which was a very powerful song immediately grabbing the attention of the crowd.
Tom expressed his excitement about being back in NYC saying, “It’s been too long New York City” which led into him singing “Hardened Heart” which he described as a song about going from despair to hope. After singing two original songs from his solo album, he took the crowd back to his Keane days with “Bend & Break” and the crowd went wild filling up the venue with cheers.
The audience spent the evening in awe of Tom’s performance from his voice and music to the honesty in his lyrics. The performance included love songs from his album including “Solid Gold” that he had written for his wife who has stuck by his side through everything he has gone through.
Throughout the evening the crowd showed their support through cheers, singing, and yelling out how much they love him. It was very apparent the crowd, just like us were blown away.
