We could not have asked for a better way to start the weekend than attending NY Country 947’s Up Close and Country concert. The only way into the show was to win! Some very lucky contest winners got to attend this special evening at Chelsea Music Hall for a night of great music from Carly Pearce, Michael Ray, and Jake Owen.
New York’s Country 94.7 has been collecting letters to send to the troops this Valentine’s Day. Before the show started, there was a special table filled with art supplies, giving those attending, a chance to make a special valentine card of their own to send to the troops.
The night kicked off with Katie Neal introducing Carly Pearce. Carly started off with “Doin’ It Right”. Next she sang “Heart’s Going Out Of Its Mind” which she wrote when her and Michael Ray first started dating. She told her co writers that she was going to marry him.
Carly talked about her love of red wine, and performed “Hide The Wine”. Her husband, Michael Ray came on stage to bring her wine, “Find You A Man That Will Bring You Wine” she said to the audience. She had the crowd singing along to “I Hope You’re Happy Now”.
Carly ended her set with a memory of her first single and number 1 song that changed everything, “Every Little Thing” which was an audience favorite.
Following Carly was Michael Ray who was introduced by Jesse Addy. He came to the stage starting off with “Think a Little Less” followed by “I’m Gonna Miss You”.
Michael brought Carly back to the stage singing a beautiful cover of Keith Whitley and Allison Krauss’s, “When You Say Nothing At All”, giving the fans all the feels. He followed with “Get To You” and “Her World Or Mine”.
One of our favorite moments of the evening was when the room filled up with cheers, singing, swaying, and arms waving when he sang “One That Got Away”.
Kelly Ford, Katie Neal, Jesse Addy, and Mike Allen came together on stage to introduce Jake Owen. When you attend a country event in NYC especially an event with these talented voices behind New York Country’s 94.7 it always feels like a family. These events bring so many people together with a shared love of country music. New York’s Country 94.7 is so thankful for all who have supported them and continue to support them, Kelly saying on stage, “This whole team and crew, we were here in the beginning when the station launched in 2013 and i feel like i see a lot of you out here who have been with us from the beginning, everybody else welcome, bring more people on board tell them how cool country is!”
Jake Owen closed out the night stepping on stage getting the party started with his song “ Down To The Honkytonk” followed by “Beachin’” and “American Country Love Song”.
A few weeks ago, Jake received a thank you card from John Mellencamp thanking him for “I Was Jack (You Were Diane)” which was inspired by John Mellencamp’s song “Jack and Diane”. Jake sang “I Was Jack (You Were Diane)” followed by “Homemade”.
Carly and Michael got married this past fall and Jake Owen played at their wedding. He performed “Made For You” which he then performed for the crowd. This is a very beautiful song. Not only did he perform this song for one of the most special days of Carly and Michael’s lives, but he also performed this song on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette which led to his next song, “Alabama Hannah”. After seeing Hannah Brown on the first episode of Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor, he wrote and shared “Alabama Hannah” on Twitter. This song definitely has had a very mixed reaction but a song that many Bachelor and Bachelorette fans would be looking forward to and hoping to hear!
Jake continued with “Anywhere with you”, “Kiss Me When You’re Drunk”, and “Drink All Day”. As the end of the night approached, one song that so many had been waiting for was saved for last. “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” which was the #1 most played country song in the last decade! The room filled with his lyrics as he sang this memorable song that so many of us love.
These artists put their heart and soul into their music, and it shows, making you feel a connection to their lyrics and the stories behind it.
Make sure to listen to and follow New York’s Country 94.7 and keep your eye out for future Up Close and Country contests!
