Nash FM 94.7 got “Up Close & Country” with Chris Young at the Hackensack Meridian Health Stage 17. The intimate performance was hosted by Katie Neal and Jesse Addy. Chris brought his talent, charm, and wit to his performance and stories.
Kevin Collier and Ryan Haas joined Chris on stage and started the night off strong with “Gettin’ You Home” which drew in the crowd. Next up, “The Man I Want To Be” a song that had been out of his set list until Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson tweeted him about the song. We were sure glad he put it back in his set list and performed it at Stage 17! He ended the first part of his set with a crowd favorite, “You” which had us swaying in our seats.
Katie and Jesse joined Chris back on stage for what Katie said was the “up close” part of the night. Jesse asked Chris about his transition from playing clubs, then theatres then taking the dip into the arena world. Chris feels very fortunate for the people standing by his side coming together for this tour “ I’ve got an incredible, incredible group of people that surround me.”
Summer time now looks much different for him than when he was younger. Chris talked about how at 15 and 16 years old, he spent time working with his dad to save up money for his first independent record that he did when he was 17 years old. This is a record that he calls terrible, but he looked at the big picture and the process of making a record and getting it out there.
Following his discussion, Chris turned the tunes back on with “Aw Naw” followed by his new single “Hangin’ On”. Chris took a pause in his music to share his appreciation. “Thank you guys again for letting us come up here and play some music-tell some stories. I really do appreciate it. This is one of my favorite cities on the face of the planet.” ( Us too Chris! ) “Huge thank you to Nash for having me here. You guys have a great radio station.“ The final song of the night, “I’m Comin Over” is a song that has changed his world and earned him double platinum certification.
This was a wonderful evening and we can’t wait until the next time we see him perform!
